Topic: Guard Your Heart
TEXT: PROVERBS 4:20-27
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23, NIV
The brain (controlled by the heart) is the equivalent of a human supercomputer. It is more complicated than any computer humankind has ever made, and maximising its ability is essential to becoming the success one wants to be—because it controls who one becomes.
It is the command center involved in and controlling absolutely everything one does. It determines how we think, feel and act.
The passage today, states reasons why we must guard our heart by paying attention to and keeping the Word of God in our hearts.
The reasons are that it:
(i) gives abundant life and good health (vs. 22);
(ii) determines who we will become (vs. 23) ;
( iii) guards our heart and keeps our mouth from corrupt speech (vs. 24);
(iv) helps us to be focused, so we would not fall into evil (vs. 26).
Are you daily guarding your heart with the Word of God? It is impossible to be successful in your Christian life unless you study the Word of God and apply it regularly. Resolve today to cherish more of the Word of God. Let it direct your heart and life.
Insight: The life without God’s Word is like a car without a wheel steering.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me value your Word in my life.
