Caleb Yirenkyi has linked up with his FC Nordsjælland teammates at the club’s pre-season camp in Austria, joining the squad after Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
The 20-year-old was not part of the initial group that travelled to the training camp. His late arrival follows a breakout tournament in North America, where he became Ghana’s youngest-ever World Cup goalscorer with a stoppage-time winner against Panama.
Yirenkyi’s winner in the 95th minute against Panama was a moment that defined Ghana’s tournament. Brandon Thomas-Asante delivered a perfect pass into the box, and Yirenkyi turned and fired past goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera.
The goal made him the 10th different Ghanaian to score at a World Cup, pushing the Black Stars to 19 overall goals in the competition. At 20 years and 153 days, he broke a record held by Asamoah Gyan for two decades. He also became Ghana’s youngest-ever World Cup debutant.
Yirenkyi’s World Cup heroics have intensified interest from several top European clubs. Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea have all stepped up their interest, with scouts attending his matches.
Brighton, Tottenham, Newcastle, and clubs from France and Germany are also monitoring the midfielder. Nordsjælland reportedly rejected a £15 million bid in January and value him at over €25 million.
Despite the speculation, Yirenkyi remains under contract with the Danish club until 2030, having been described by Nordsjælland’s football director as “one of the best midfielders in the Super League”.
Yirenkyi was initially left out of Nordsjælland’s pre-season camp amid the transfer speculation. His arrival in Austria now signals his return to the squad as he prepares for the 2026/27 season.
