Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), days after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Omo-Agege announced in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh, on Thursday.
The Bayelsa State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon Dauprebo Ikuromo, has called on newly defecting members to remain committed to the party’s ideology and vision.
Ikuromo appealed on Monday shortly after a defection rally at the NDC Secretariat along Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa. The event witnessed the formal defection of a prominent politician, popularly known as “Youth Governor”, Doubara Kumokou, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the NDC.
The South-South Reawakening Group (SSRG) has rejected the emergence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bayelsa State, branding it a misguided political venture with no meaningful prospects in the Niger Delta.
Speaking on Thursday, the group’s convener, Elder Joseph Ambakederimo, said the SSRG does not regard the NDC as a credible political platform, dismissing suggestions that it represents the interests of the Ijaw people.
According to him, the party lacks the political, ideological and structural foundation required to gain relevance in Bayelsa State or across the wider Niger Delta region. He described its positioning as a fallacy driven by personal ambitions rather than collective progress.
