Excessive borehole drilling threatens urban infrastructure – UniUyo Don

A Regional Planning and Analysis expert, Prof. Jacob Atser, has warned that the uncontrolled drilling of boreholes in urban areas poses serious environmental and infrastructural risks, calling for the adoption of a centralised water supply system in Nigerian cities.

Prof. Atser gave the warning at the weekend while delivering the 125th inaugural lecture of the University of Uyo (UniUyo), where he spoke on the topic “Social Planning in Regional Context: Paradoxical Realities in Nigeria.”b

The Department of Building, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Niger Delta University, in Bayelsa State, on Friday enrolled its inaugural cohort into the Nigerian Institute of Building. 

The ceremony, held within the institution, centred on the theme: Building the Future; Innovating, Integrating, and Inspiring in the Construction 4.0 Era. 

In his address, Dr Christopher Belonwu, Acting Head of Department (HOD) for Building, characterised the event as a day of realisation, introspection, and profound elation.

The Bayelsa Education Trust Fund (EDTF) has called for a stronger partnership with the media to advance education and promote sustainable development in the state.

The appeal was made on Thursday by the Chairman of the EDTF, High Chief Fidelis Agbiki, during a familiarisation visit to the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bayelsa State Council. Agbiki led the Executive Secretary of the Fund, Prof. Ebimieowei Etebu, and other members of the newly inaugurated Board on the visit.
