PDP condemns arrest of Akwa Ibom spokesman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the arrest of its Akwa Ibom State Publicity Secretary, Ewa Okpo, describing the action as an attempt to intimidate political opponents and suppress freedom of expression.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party said it had been informed that Okpo was arrested following a petition filed by Senator Effiong Bob and is currently being questioned by police officers at the Quick Intervention Unit, Ikot Akpan Abia.

Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.

Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, in a statement on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, said Nkiruka was arraigned on two counts of obtaining money by false pretence and stealing to the tune of N69,150,000.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday dismissed a case filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) against suspended DCP Abba Kyari on allegations bordering on non-disclosure of assets.

Justice James Omotosho dismissed the suit filed against Kyari and his younger brothers, Mohammed Kyari and Ali Kyari, for the anti-narcotics agency’s failure to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The judge held that the burden of proving a case beyond a reasonable doubt falls on the prosecution, which it had failed to do so.
